A delivery driver has been convicted after being found drug-driving on the M90 motorway near Rosyth, following a dangerous roadside incident.
According to a report by the Dunfermline Press, the driver was discovered stopped on the hard shoulder of the motorway. When police attended, the driver was subjected to a roadside drug test.
Tests revealed the driver was 16 times over the legal limit for cocaine.
Court outcome
The case was heard at court, where the sheriff highlighted that the effects of cocaine can last far longer than some drivers realise, presenting a serious risk not only to the driver but to other road users.
The driver was convicted of drug-driving offences. As with similar cases, penalties typically include a driving ban and financial penalties, reflecting the severity of the offence.
Why this matters
Drug-driving remains a serious road safety issue, particularly for drivers operating vehicles for work. Being impaired behind the wheel places colleagues, emergency services, and the public at risk — especially on high-speed roads such as motorways.
This case serves as another reminder that drug-driving is treated as seriously as drink-driving under the law, with strict enforcement and significant consequences.
