Royal Mail has suspended deliveries in part of Bishopton after a postie was assaulted while carrying out their round.
The incident happened on 25th February and prompted an immediate response from Royal Mail, who confirmed the decision was taken to protect staff while the situation is investigated. Deliveries to the affected area have been temporarily halted as a safety measure.
Royal Mail has stated that the safety of postal workers is a top priority and that staff should never have to face abuse or violence simply for doing their job. The company will continue to work with the police and local authorities to address the incident before deliveries resume.
Residents in the affected area may experience delays to their post while the suspension remains in place. Customers are expected to receive further updates once it is deemed safe for postal workers to return to the area.
Attacks and abuse towards postal workers remain a serious concern across the UK, with Royal Mail repeatedly urging the public to treat delivery staff with respect while they carry out essential services in communities every day
Local councillors have also been made aware of the situation after residents raised concerns about the suspension of deliveries.
Councillor James MacLaren, a Conservative representative for Bishopton, confirmed he had been contacted by several constituents regarding the issue.
He said:
“I would have liked to have seen Royal Mail contacting the councillors to let them know what’s happening, instead of us having to learn about it third-hand and being left in the dark about it.”
Meanwhile, Police Scotland confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
A spokesperson said:
“Enquiries are ongoing following a report of a man assaulted on Carrick Road, Bishopton, on Wednesday, February 25.”
The investigation continues as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the assault.
